Contact lens technology has changed dramatically over the past few years and contacts are an option for most patients–including those with dry eyes, astigmatism, and patients over forty.

Ocular Health

Most people visit their optometrist when they need a new pair of glasses; but eyewear is only a small part of what we do. Our most important job is maintaining the health of your visual system. Dr. Rowland recommends yearly exams for most patients (not necessarily new glasses), in order to ensure ocular health and catch any conditions early. Diabetes, hypertension, and glaucoma are just a few of the conditions optometrists look for, and are often the first to find. Dr. Rowland works with a network of trusted ophthalmologists, surgeons, and specialists to provide co-management for cataract surgery, laser treatments, and numerous other procedures.

Pediatric Vision

According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), infants should have their first comprehensive eye exam at 6 months of age. Children then should have additional eye exams at age 3, and just before they enter the first grade—at about age 5 or 6. For school-aged children, the AOA recommends an eye exam every two years if no vision correction is required. Children who need eyeglasses or contact lenses should be examined annually or as recommended by their optometrist/ophthalmologist. See our resource list for some of the conditions we look for in an exam.
